Tomorrow, In a Year
So my favorite group of all time, The Knife, was asked by Danish Hotel Pro Forma to write the music and libretto for an opera called “Tomorrow, In a Year.” What is the plot and/or the reason for this opera?
“In November 2009, it is precisely 150 years since Charles Darwin published The Origin of Species, a work that describes the biological and geological world, as it has come into existence and continues to do so every single day. Our view of the world has been changed for ever as a result of the theory of evolution. Tomorrow, in a year uses Darwin’s way of observing and describing the world. Change as a process and the interrelationship of all things is the basic material of the performance.”
I have always dreamed of being able to see them live (they don’t tour in North America) but to see them perform with choreographed dancers in elaborate costumes to The Knife’s own ambient-y electronic-y version of an opera with a plot based upon Darwin’s Theory of Evolution?!?! Looks like I’ll have to find a way to be in Copenhagen come next September.
